It may seem unbelievable, but at one time AKC often shared detailed information about its legal wrangles. Transcripts, depositions, and trial verdicts were published in the AKC Gazette. Needless to say, this was never an official policy and there was no altruistic motive attached to these uncharacteristic episodes of transparency.

Approaching the judge should be done during downtime, not between classes, not while taking photos, but when the judge clearly has a break in their assignment. Introduce yourself, explain you are a long-time breeder, exhibitor, or parent club-approved mentor (if applicable).

When Chris Terrell piloted Ch. Kabik’s The Challenger out onto that sea of emerald green, all noise and distraction fell away. Turning inward, a focused confidence surged through his hands, enabling the great hound to reveal his very essence as the king of all dogs.
Known as ‘Pepsi’ by his many adoring fans, the magnificent black-and-tan Afghan Hound had been crowned Showdog of the Year for 1982 just one month before Chris Terrell showed him to his Westminster Best In Show. They won this great honor as an owner-handler team.

Out of the Vault - A few pictures from around the Doberman Pinscher ring at the 1960 Westminster Kennel Club. Best of Breed was awarded to Ch. Storm’s Donner handled by Peter Knoop who went on to win the Working Group that evening.

“He created the Gould Challenge Cup as his parting gesture to the breed.” Krystyn adds that this awesome piece of Saint Bernard history will be on view for Westminster in the mansion library. Their special Westminster display also features historic pictures such as Frank Gould’s first Saint Bernard litter whelped at the kennel. “Upstairs in the art gallery we also have their trophy cups and in the center is the Frank Gould Saint Bernard cup and a smaller challenge cup, one awarded for Smooths and one for Roughs.” I took a look and I think that’s a damn fine parting gesture.
