Family, friends and many in the sport of purebred dogs are mourning the sudden, unexpected passing of Jane Flowers. Jane was a well-known and highly regarded professional handler along with her husband, famed professional handler Stan Flowers. Based in Buffalo, Minnesota, their Evergreen kennels has produced numerous top dogs and Best In Show winners in various groups and breeds.

The perpetual question is whether this sport has gotten harder or easier over the decades. There is no end of opinionated discussion on both sides of that argument. However, everything is relative. Case in point, prior to 2015 there was non-stop talk about revising the Triple Crown requirements because no one had conquered that challenge since Affirmed crossed the finish line at Belmont way back in 1978.

Congratulations to Vicki Seiler-Cushman on the birth of grandbaby number 2! Welcome to the world Jemma Widmer, born at 7lbs. 14 oz. Best wishes to Vicki’s daughter, Courtney, and her husband, Erich Widmer.

This year’s shows will be held January 5-8 with specialties on the 5th and 6th and the Kennel Club of Palm Springs all breed shows on the 7thand 8th. The Canine Chronicle is the Official Magazine of the cluster.

We look forward to being able to hold our January Shows at the beautiful Empire Polo Grounds for many years to come.

If you have not yet read Will Alexander’s article titled Why Bother? in this month’s Canine Chronicle (http://www.onlinedigitalpubs.com/publication/?m=2330&i=760058&p=120&id=8717&ver=html) I urge you to do so. Will talks about a youngster who walked by as he was blow drying his Irish Setter in the rain and asked why bother? We have all been there: Spending hours line [...]

All in all, despite the rain and the parking lot tyrant, it was a wonderful day. Let’s face it, it is impossible not have fun at a dog show. The club deserves our appreciation for making it happen.

We are sad to report the recent passing of famed Cocker Spaniel handler Bob Covey.
