The Kennel Club of Philadelphia – The Show Will Go On….

By Deb Cooper

Wayne Ferguson, President of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia has been busy working with County Health Officials and NBC Universal to work out the necessary details to hold their 2020 Dog Show on the regularly scheduled date of Saturday, November 14th   (the Philadelphia Kennel Club normally holds a second show on the following Sunday).

The show will occur on the originally scheduled dates of Saturday, November 14 and Sunday November 15 with modifications to adhere to COVID-19 protocol.  The show will be held at Greater Philadelphia Expo Center as in the recent past.  Some of the pertinent changes include:

  • The show will take place over two days:  Four groups will be held Saturday, with a morning and an afternoon session.  Three groups and Best In Show will be held on Sunday, again with a morning and an afternoon session.
  • There will be no spectators allowed
  • There will be no vendors
  • The show will not be benched:  The Show and Go methodology will be implemented, with wristbands used to enforce morning and afternoon sessions.
  • This year’s show will be a Champions only show

The groups and Best In Show will be taped for airing on Thanksgiving Day.  This will be the first nationally televised show since the Pandemic began.

This year’s show will be limited to 400 dogs – 200 dogs on each day.  Information regarding opening date will be available soon.  The premium list will be available on infodog.com in the coming days.  The Canine Chronicle will post information as it is made available.

The Kennel Club of Philadelphia has been broadcasting their show on Thanksgiving Day since 2002 and it has become a household tradition.  The Broadcast is an excellent outreach for the sport of purebred dogs, reaching nearly 20 million viewers.

The Canine Chronicle will keep the fancy updated on developments as we get closer to the scheduled show dates.  Be sure to check out Table Talk Live’s interview with Wayne Ferguson on CanineChronicle.TV and on our Canine Chronicle Face Book Page.
