Yes, indeed. Where are we going with this? Honestly, I am not sure. Join me on the journey. Perhaps we can figure it out together? It all goes back to being at home for a few consecutive weeks. Normally, I am not. A very cold winter, with intermittent snow and ice, prevented me from doing many of the activities I enjoy when time allows. Days and weeks of ice-covered pavement offered no opportunity to get in my miles outside in the fresh air. Turning to the treadmill is a poor second. However, my treadmill has wifi. Wifi enables me use my iPad. It keeps me entertained when Mother Nature can’t. No complaints in that department.
I rarely, if ever, watch television. There are more interesting things to do. When I had no choice but to use the treadmill, connecting with Xfinity on my iPad offered lots of reasonable options. Commercial, On Demand, live, movies, and series–all were there to watch. Since the treadmill is far less interesting than being out in nature, my goal was to find programing which would keep me engaged. Instead, I found myself viewing more commercials than content.
Being more of a PBS and Netflix watcher, I was dismayed by the amount of advertising being squeezed in between the programming. How do you get involved with a storyline without being driven to distraction by the frequent interruptions? I began to notice that if a show was an hour long, the commercials were spaced less frequently at the beginning. As time went on, not only were they one after another, they were longer, too. There I was on the treadmill desperately trying to keep up my speed. It just wasn’t working for me. Nothing interesting to watch resulted in nothing stimulating enough to keep me moving.
