Table Talk

The Dog Show community was reminded this past weekend of just how important it is for us to be mindful of safety. Holley Eldred and her boyfriend, Dale Kaplan, were in a horrible accident in their van. There was a big pile-up on I-80 that occurred just a few cars ahead of them and they could not avoid the impact. Thankfully, apart from a few broken bones suffered by both Holley and Dale, everyone, including the dogs, is okay. The van was equipped with stainless crates and Holley says they probably saved the dogs’ lives. Photos of the crates after the accident bring chills to my bones. I cannot imagine what the end result would have been if those dogs were travelling in wire crates. Holley attributes the positive outcome to a guardian angel: while there may be a bit of that, being responsible and having the dogs’ safety as the utmost concern is what I believe resulted in the best possible outcome for this scary situation. The community outreach to Holley, Dale and dogs was immeasurable which warms my heart. We truly are one big, happy family!

Today marks the first day of the North Florida Classic Cluster cluster in Tallahassee, FL. Day one includes two shows in one day. I’d love to hear from folks about how they feel about the two-shows-in-one-day concept. It would be interesting to hear the exhibitor’s perspective and their opinion of the impact on dogs. I took a quick look at the show schedule and felt badly for the professional handlers. I continue to be hesitant about this concept, especially for young dogs. I am not sure the “more show the better” concept is the right approach. It certainly didn’t work for Starbucks. Here’s hoping all goes smoothly.

Our thoughts and best wishes are with Tad Brooks as his mom recovers from a sudden illness.

Sadly, the fancy lost another friend. Terrier fancier Dan Kiedrowski passed away recently.

On a brighter note, best wishes to Ron Scott as he is finally going home! As most know, Ron has been in the hospital then rehab for nearly 2 months. He has certainly demonstrated perseverance and strength and should be an example to us all! We hope he is back on his feet and at the shows soon!

Celebrating birthdays this week are: Kate Batzner, Tray Pittman, Ed Fojtik, Joey Alarcon, Barry Rose, Rindi Gaudet and Heather Helmer.

Spring vacation season is coming up: where is everyone going? Drop me a line so we can share your wonderful vacation plans with all your friends! Do you have an anniversary coming up? What better way to wish your sweetie a happy anniversary than in Table Talk!!!!!

Please remember, be kind to your fellow exhibitors, give your dogs a big hug, and be careful out there, my friends.

Until next time…
