So, it’s over. Westminster 150 concluded on the evening of February 3rd before a sellout crowd at Madison Square Garden. The crowd was raucous and excited to be part of this event. They seemed to understand the historic importance of being present a century and a half after the first Westminster KC show was held.

The final seven dogs vying for Best In Show made a fitting finale to this memorable moment in dog show history. Judge David Fitzpatrick called the lineup “gorgeous” while others said it was “one of the best ever at Westminster.” Personally, I had a hard time finding a dog in the lineup that didn’t have a chance at winning that coveted purple and gold rosette. They all had superior breed type with sound, correct movement. They were in great condition, and they all performed good enough to win. In the end, the two that Judge David Fitzpatrick chose were just a bit better than the others. As he said, “It was my good fortune to walk into a ring where you really couldn’t make a mistake.”

Having witnessed the BIS lineups at Westminster for nearly 40 years, this year’s show made me think about some of the great dogs who had their moments at what I consider to be the most famous, prestigious dog show in the world. There are some I wish I could have seen in person such as Remedy the Smooth Fox Terrier who won three in a row, The Duke – the poodle who won in 1935, and Brucie the black Cocker who won two in ‘40 and ‘41.
