By Michael Canalizo

I don’t want to linger on this subject, but I want to remind all that using unsavory, inflammatory words can–intentionally or not–do damage. Most of these unfortunate (and usually inappropriate) comments come from the competitive side of our sport. This month, let’s discuss some great “words” that have passed the test of time. These phrases have as much, if not more, meaning today than when they were first spoken.

Some are profound while some are profoundly funny!

Maybe some of you have heard them bantered about in conversation or at a seminar, and if you haven’t, be sure to read them a few times. They come from some of the greats in the history of the sport of purebred dogs. Great breeders, great judges, and great exhibitors/handlers. These legendary people found it important to share their opinions about things impacting our sport.

I can only offer up a few that come to mind as I write this, but there are so many quips and comments that have slipped out of the lips of masters that will no doubt come to me once I press send!

There was a long-range plan for me, Jimmy Mitchell, and Desi Murphy to sit around for a week with a recorder (with an extra battery charged up and ready to go) to document some of these “pearls of wisdom” that we heard. Unfortunately, Jimmy left us before the “Nights of a Million Laughs” was to convene. But Desi and I might still write the book.

In no specific order, I share some great one-liner’s from some of the icons of our sport.
