Does anyone else get tired of hearing the plethora of “experts” claiming that one must always breed and exhibit dogs that are closest to their breed standard…because that is the “Bible” for all things to the breed!
Let’s push past some of that dribble that permeates a wide swatch of social media platforms. It comes from those that haven’t left the “keyboard” long enough to exhibit a dog or, God forbid, ever bred a litter. Let’s face it: We have been living for a good many years dealing with those who possess the “Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach” mentality–at increasingly alarming rate.
It started with the Bible claiming that Noah, “took two pairs of every species on the ark to save them” (one male, one female). Maybe Noah was the first “breeder” that we can document.
For the moment, this is directed to those who have hung for hours (with a bad back) over a whelping box, grew out a few litters, and have been “baptized” with the will to put forth an honest effort to produce a proper example of the breed. Methinks those excited newcomers have always been told, “The breed Standard is the Bible.” While I surely don’t disagree with that statement of expectation…sometimes the expectation is that those who are judging should be adhering to the same premise.
