Sometimes I get a distinct feeling many don’t “actually” read all the rules regarding exhibiting dogs at AKC shows. That includes both exhibitors and judges.
I happen to be an avid reader of the online Gazette. For those naysayers: it’s time to give it another look…it’s as impressive as it is informative. The breed columns have quality writers that provide such good information about the breed in history and current trends. There are links to videos, which is something one couldn’t get “back in the day” and a whole lot more.
Most importantly, and maybe the most ignored area, is the minutes of both the AKC Board and Delegates meetings. Sure, one rushes to the front of the Secretary’s Page to see who got whacked in any of the myriad of ways. Then on to the Judge(s) application and approval pages. Sometimes seeing who is starting out their judging career as well as those who are advancing can give one pause. There is another article on that conundrum in the offing. But the hidden nuggets come from what happens at those lengthy meetings held once a month. All rule changes require the approval of the delegates, and that procedure moves at a snail’s pace.
