Just looking at the photos tells the story of three days of all breed judging, and many specialties on Thursday, too. Let me make this perfectly clear. The Lone Star State Classic is Southern Hospitality at its finest. This is one classy cluster! From the moment you walk into Market Hall, you can see breathtaking flowers in the cluster’s red, white, and blue theme. Dominating the room is a large platform draped in the cluster colors. On one side is a big collage celebrating purebred dogs. This bright color scheme started for judges when they were welcomed at the host hotel with a gift bag identified with each of our names tied to the bags on a card. Inside were cards with funny sayings, treats, and beverages–all of which were enjoyed.
Every day cluster coordinators, Larry Abbott, chair; Michael Knight, treasurer; Barbara Shaw, specialty coordinator; and Vicki Abbott, secretary, were in residence making everything look and seem perfect. The atmosphere was welcoming and upbeat. A great pair of AKC Conformation Field Representatives, Diana Wilson and Jill Bell, were extremely helpful to exhibitors, club members, and the judges. MB-F Superintendents Marti Johnson and Terry Pierce were on the job in their friendly, competent manner. The cluster provided excellent stewards in each ring who were welcoming to the exhibitors and judges alike.
The sound of the Star-Spangled Banner, sung by one beautiful voice after another each day, filled the building at the beginning of judging. Rings of different sizes accommodated the various breeds. Spectators had the pleasure of attending the show, too. Most sat ringside at various rings enjoying the show. Some spectators even asked questions of the judges in their rings. What could be better than a day at the dog show? We all know the answer… Nothing!
