Recently, a long-held dream of ours came true; we moved from our home in a ‘chocolate-box’ sleepy English village to the other side of the world to start a completely new life in… Tasmania.

We’ve been in Australia for two months and, as you would expect, we are still finding our feet.

I think this dramatic translocation would have been a whole lot smoother if we’d had our beloved dogs with us but we’ve encountered every hiccup, accident and delay possible in bringing them over (from incomplete documentation to the quarantine facilities being fully booked) so our Dachshunds are now being wonderfully looked after (and thoroughly spoiled) with family until they can join us early next year (if I say that bit fast–it doesn’t seem so long to wait!).

In the meantime, I do occasionally find myself drifting up to complete strangers walking their dogs–craving some canine interaction–proving the old adage, you don’t realize what you’ve got till it’s gone…
