It’s time for our annual NOHS recap, covering the pros and cons of not just the NOHS Finals in Orlando, but of the year as a whole. I am grateful that each year this article gets shorter, as the system and shows continue to iron out problems.

I put forth the question to exhibitors of what they liked and disliked about this year’s NOHS Finals, and they did not disappoint. As per usual, scheduling, judges, and prizes topped the list of grievances.

In years past, the NOHS Finals has been held on the Friday before the AKC Championship shows–along with several group shows, a lot of specialties, and the Puppy & Junior Sweepstakes. Not surprisingly, scheduling has been a nightmare, and many exhibitors had to choose between showing in NOHS and one of the other competitions– usually a specialty.

So, I thought it was a stroke of genius to change NOHS to Saturday and Sunday, on the opposite days that the breed and group were judged at the National Championship show. Best In Show was moved from Saturday to Sunday evening.
