“Elderly gentlemen’s hunting companion” was a description I heard of Clumber Spaniels long ago and which I like, although I didn’t see it on the parent club’s web site and so it may be politically incorrect. From my vantage point at the kitchen island, I am watching a robin go in and out of the big sugar maple tree where its nest must be. “Poor robin,” I say silently to myself. “I bet this is no fun for you either.” Even as we change our clocks forward tonight, it is obvious. Spring is not ready to make an appearance.

Unfortunately, Dr. Carmen Battaglia did not make it back to the show to judge on Saturday. He went to the hospital after the show on Friday with chest pain. Dr. Battaglia had a mild heart attack, and two stints were put in him. I am told he will rest for a couple of weeks and then he’ll be back in the ring as well as hosting his popular seminars. Feel better soon, Carmen! We are anxiously awaiting your return.
