Ladies’ Dogs as Companions? Toys, of course!
If I were creating a list of dog breeds one might consider to be “ladies” dogs – or more popular with women, great with kids and families – surprisingly quite a few breeds on my list today would be the same ones appearing in Dr. William Gordon-Stables’ 1879 classic Ladies’ Dogs as Companions: A Chatty Pleasant Book with Many Stories Humorous & Pathetic Painted From Life.

Just in case you have not heard the news, September is National Preparedness Month! This year marks the 13th annual National Preparedness Month spon- sored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

It is with great sadness that I have to report the loss of two more icons of our sport. First, I offer condolences to the friends and family of Carl Sanders on his recent passing. Our dog family also lost another legend with the passing of the great handler and judge, Bob Forsyth. We know he and Jane are together again watching over us all and cheering us on at the shows. On a happier note, warmest congratulations to Ashley and Brendon on their recent marriage. May you have many happy years together!!

I was saddened to hear that Ron Scott was a bit under the weather: After a short stay in the hospital, I hear he is home and on the mend. Get well quickly and take care of yourself my friend!
Thoughts and prayers are with Bergit and Hans Kabel as she fights a serious illness. Bergit – the entire fancy is thinking about you and sending good thoughts to you and your family.
Our own Cheslie Pickett Smithey took a journey across the pond to the Royal in Melbourne, Australia to judge juniors. I can’t wait to hear about the journey and her judging experience!
