Here I am, just six miles east, but a world away from our previous home. Finally, I am taming the chaos. These past six weeks have been a whirlwind of activity and emotions. Making the decision to sell our home of twenty-one years was the easy part. We agreed. It was time. The selling part happened much faster than we ever expected. One open house on the Sunday before the Super Bowl brought several potential buyers. Early the next morning came an offer. How pleased we were that a lovely couple found our house to be as beautiful and unique as we did. Stately historic homes are definitely not for everyone, but it was perfect for them. It’s a big universe with over a hundred billion galaxies. Our Sun is just one of about 200 billion stars in our little galaxy. Inside our solar system there are 8 planets, 5 dwarf planets, 3,743 comets, and over a million asteroids. On our planet alone, we have war, famine, natural disasters, crime, and disease. But somehow, the biggest soul-crushing disaster in the center of the universe has become going third in the group in East Jawbip Kennel Club on Wednesday afternoon.

I remember my first dog show like it was yesterday. It was the Chicago International at McCormick Place Convention Center. While my mind was lost in amazement at the sheer scale of the show, the benches, the number of rings, etc., I was also physically lost trying to find my place to set up on the bench. I kept thinking, “Maybe I should have chosen a smaller, local show,” for my initial foray in the sport of purebred dogs, but my youth masked any apprehension I might have felt.
