Akela, a six-year-old Siberian Husky from Mansfield, and his owner Jess Allen won the working group title at Crufts 2022 today (Thursday 10 March), qualifying him for a place in the Best in Show final on Sunday.
When we start as new, untested judges, I think we all have our heads in the clouds! We think, “I know I can do this, after all, I showed/bred good dogs, and did my share of winning! What’s the problem? I did a little bit of stewarding, went to Nationals, mentored under some good people, I’m ready!”

He’s a successful businessman with several dog-related endeavors, as well as a handler who has reached one of the pinnacles of the sport—Best In Show at Westminster. “My life revolves around dogs,” he says. “So everything I’ve done—seminars, classes, transport services, writing, producing grooming products, and handling—involves them as well.”
