Sometime around 1992, I was watching David Letterman launch his Top Ten List into the media with full regalia–and they loved it. At the time, I was AKC Vice President of Communications and always looking for ways to get some positive press for purebred dogs. A few of us kicked it around at the office and came up with a list. We called it the “Top Ten Most Popular Breeds” and we believed it! Letterman is focusing more on his Top Ten Beard list these days, but every March, the AKC list still hits the airwaves … and it is fun! Even if it’s not actually the list of America’s Most Popular Breeds. Really. It’s not.
