International Kennel Club Of Chicago and The Canine Chronicle Announce National Owner Handled Series Awards Gala

The International Kennel Club of Chicago (IKC) has announced plans for the inaugural National Owner Handled Series (NOHS) Awards Gala sponsored by The Canine Chronicle. The number one NOHS dog in each breed for 2022 will be invited to an awards ceremony to take place in the evening of Saturday, January 7, 2023 following the International Kennel Club show in the ballroom of the stunning Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center just outside of Chicago.

“These owner handlers work all year to make it to number one, but until now they’ve not had an event to celebrate their achievement,” says Erika Wyatt. “As the NOHS program has matured and burgeoned, it became evident it was time to fix this. Fortunately, Tom and Amy Grabe felt the same way, and we’ve joined forces to make it happen.”

The ceremony will be a glamorous “teal carpet” event, with honorees receiving certificates and rosettes commemorating their achievement. The Top NOHS Dog in each group and of All Breeds will also receive an engraved plaque. Each honoree will receive an invitation and ticket to the event.

The weekend will also provide exciting NOHS competitions. NOHS competitors will have three opportunities to qualify for the semi-finals of the Chicago Challenge Cup, as both Regular and NOHS group winners from the three days of January shows that same weekend in Schaumburg will be invited to compete at the Summer IKC crowning event, the Chicago Challenge Cup, which boasts a $20,000 prize, plus $5000 to a charity chosen by the winner from a list of three predetermined charities. This event, sponsored by Canine Chronicle, will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Chicago’s Arie Crown Theater.

“We look forward to having the best of the best NOHS competitors meet and compete here, while also giving them the unprecedented chance to socialize and be recognized for their achievement—and to qualify to compete for a $20,000 cash prize!” says Scott Pfeil.

The Windy City Cluster will be held January 6-8, 2023 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center just outside of Chicago.  The Chicago Dog Show will be August 25-27, 2023 in Chicago.

Further details including rules and regulations will be posted on the IKC and Windy City Cluster web pages as they are finalized.
