The major safety precaution was, of course, the ban on spectators. Without the usual Westminster mobs, it truly was like any other summer show. Just like they have done at the Piers, the club set up a series of giant flatscreens outside the rings to provide close-up views of the judging but it really wasn’t necessary since there was no problem finding a spot to see it.

We need to appreciate the history of our sport. However, if you need a little more incentive, there are hardly any vendors at Westminster this year. (@#%#@@) But Krystyn assures me that a look around the Lyndhurst gift shop will not disappoint. She describes it as, “A little jewel box of unique things you would never find anywhere else.” They’ve got some great dog stuff as well as refreshments. And you don’t need to buy the tour to get into the gift shop.
“He created the Gould Challenge Cup as his parting gesture to the breed.” Krystyn adds that this awesome piece of Saint Bernard history will be on view for Westminster in the mansion library. Their special Westminster display also features historic pictures such as Frank Gould’s first Saint Bernard litter whelped at the kennel. “Upstairs in the art gallery we also have their trophy cups and in the center is the Frank Gould Saint Bernard cup and a smaller challenge cup, one awarded for Smooths and one for Roughs.” I took a look and I think that’s a damn fine parting gesture.
This year is not what we are accustomed to, but life is returning to normal and that is plenty of reason to celebrate. And the good news is most COVID restrictions in NYC have been lifted in case you are feeling adventurous while you’re here.

The Burbank Kennel Club has announced that they are unable to hold their show this summer, but we certainly hope to have that show back on the schedule in Southern California in the summer of 2022.
