In addition to learning new skills and refining old ones, participation in the sport of Junior Showmanship helps young people develop the mental and emotional strength needed to succeed in a competitive environment. Through participation in Junior Showmanship, young people are exposed to many opportunities to foster feelings of compassion, learn humility, and form a positive self-identity.
With the increased number of training classes and puppy matches being held these days, improving your handling skills has become easier than it has ever been. Junior handlers have achieved levels of success not only in the juniors’ ring, but in the conformation ring as well, that were unheard of just twenty short years ago.
If you want to improve your handling skills and increase your success in the ring, where do you start? With so many options, it can seemingly be overwhelming to decide what will be the most effective use of your time.
Ask for help
Many young people (especially teenagers) have the misconception that asking for help is a sign of weakness. Most people, in any age group, would, I think, believe it is best to exhaust all measures before you make yourself vulnerable in front of others.
Maybe, when you tell someone you could use a little help, it could be taken as a sign of vulnerability. Unfortunately, however, that comes from a negative point of view, which impedes a person from acquiring the many benefits. When you ask others for help, many advantages can come your way.
