It’s Not Hoarding If It’s For The Dogs

I have concluded that dog-show equipment reproduces. There simply is no other explanation.
Nobody goes to bed on Tuesday night owning three crates and wakes up Wednesday morning intending to own fourteen. And yet, somewhere between the first puppy and the third Champion, the garage becomes a branch office of a dog-show supply company.
There are crates stacked inside crates. Crates folded behind crates. Crates in the garage, crates in the basement, crates in the van, and one crate in the dining room that was supposed to be there “just for the weekend.”
That weekend was during the Obama administration.
And yet, if someone says, “I’m getting rid of a 36-inch crate. Do you want it?” we do not say, “No, thank you. I have plenty.” Instead, we say: “Wire or plastic?” Why? Because we’re dog people.
The same thing happens with leads.
I have known people who could not find their car keys but could produce, within seconds, a four-foot kangaroo leather lead in teal with silver beads.
We have show leads for every dog, every outfit, every weather condition, and every possible emotional state.
