I’ve been watching the Crufts coverage on YouTube which, just like the Westminster coverage before it, was very impressive and far superior to that broadcast on terrestrial TV.
Frank Kane’s commentary never disappoints, and he picked up and publicly spoke out about the vast improvements that breeders have recently made in numerous breeds such as the Bulldog, Bloodhound, Basset, Pug, etc.
These were timely comments indeed as several European countries are now actively banning the breeding of certain breeds and, recently, an article appeared in the Daily Mail that stated (and was subsequently debunked) that the UK was also intending on banning 67 breeds!
I am vehemently against the banning of any breed and have written countless articles on this highly detrimental action, but we (those in the pedigree dog world) are sometimes our own worst enemy.
I vividly remember going to my very first Crufts, as a college student, when it was held in London way back in 1991, and being appalled at the state of our ‘national’ breed, the Bulldog.
