R.E.S.P.E.C.T was the clarion call roared out by the irreplaceable Queen of Soul back in 1967. Its powerful message has continued to echo on down through the decades, completely undiminished in power, because, after all, we all want respect. We all want acknowledgment. We all want our ‘props’.
Along with people, organizations, and movements desiring and demanding respect, certain words do, too.
Due to the ebb and flow of life, and the coming and going of fashions, certain words fall by the wayside. They get tarnished, they get trashed, dragged through the mud, and subsequently lose their relevance, their power, and ultimately–their respect.
One of those words (whose light has been significantly dimmed in recent times) is relevant to all of us in the pedigree dog world (a word that certainly used to carry immense gravitas and engendered exactly what Aretha was calling for), and this is the word…Breeder.
The plummeting value of this word didn’t happen overnight, but it’s descent certainly sped up with the arrival of the ‘designer dog’ craze.
The word ‘breeder’ quickly became associated with money-making, puppy mills, cruelty, and people to avoid at all costs.
