I came back to the dog show world as an adult, years after showing in juniors—with a lot to learn and no idea where to start.

What I found was a community rooted in tradition and muscle memory, but not always structured for newcomers. There’s no handbook. No orientation. Instead, most learning happens through informal mentorship that’s often invisible or out of reach unless you already know where to look.

That’s a problem.

And it’s not because people don’t care. It’s because many learned the hard way and assume others should, too.
