In the sport’s history, only a handful of dogs reveled in as much international success in the show ring as the all-star BIS BISS Am. Can. Ch. Efbe’s Hidalgo At Goodspice. The level of recognition Charmin, the Sealyham Terrier, received throughout his career is equaled by only a very few representatives of the canine elite.

He was bred in Canada by France Bergeron, a Canadian Kennel Club life member from Quebec, Canada. Considering his sire (Ch. Goodspice Pass The Pepper) and most dogs in his pedigree were bred by ‘The Lady Terrier’, Margery Good, it was perhaps most appropriate that he later conquered the dog world in Margery’s most capable hands. Her history with horses is also reflected in Charmin’s pedigree name–for Hidalgo was quite the legend of an American endurance mustang who, in 1897, competed in the “Ocean of Fire” survival race across 3,000 miles of the Arabian Desert. His litter brother was named Efbe’s Seabiscuit out of respect for the incredible racehorse, Seabiscuit.

‘Charmin’s owners quickly realized they had something really special in their hands after they started showing him. He was made up to a Champion at a very young age and a string of high profile successes was followed by his breakthrough Best In Show wins at the 2007 American Sealyham Terrier Club National and at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship the same year. For the latter, he was awarded over $50,000 in total cash prizes. He was America’s #4 Dog All Breeds in 2007 at only 3.5 years of age.

The following year, with two WKC Awards of Merit in his pocket and as a well-seasoned show dog this time, Charmin’ stole the show in Madison Square Garden and won Best of Breed and the Terrier Group at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Margery described him in The New York Times article as having “strength without coarseness. He’s forward-moving and he’s consistent. He’s just so elegant.”
