Did You Know? – Autumn Gets “National” Attention!

Like “Sand through an Hourglass, So goes the Days of Our Lives” …and this is the “time” to spend a day (or two, or three) at a National Specialty. In our little world, the “fall” has historically been when many breed clubs will host their big yearly event. By the way, spring has quite a few Nationals as well as the cooler weather of the two seasons which aids exhibitors to be able to travel with less concern about heat issues. (For the most part…until freak events surface due to the increasing “climate change” phenomenon).

There are so many aspects surrounding attendance at a National Specialty.

• One aspect is the very important reason of seeing a broad representation of your breed, with the hope of seeing something that could be a useful contribution to your line.

• Another goes to exhibiting under the strong opinion of someone in their breed and seeking validation of their entry.

• Many now attend in order to pick up a “Judges Education” component toward a breed they want to judge.

• Dedicated club members are present for the Annual Meeting and all that involves.

• Offerings of Health and Breeders Seminars are usually incorporated.

You get the drift…hopefully there is something for everyone. I recently judged the Beauceron National and in addition to the typical classes, they had an “UpDog Disc Event, CGC, Trick Dog testing and (surprisingly) a “FastCat” event. I bet if I looked further there might have been a dock diving pool somewhere!
