Year End Summary – An Incredible Race!
by Jeffrey Hanlin
Now that the final show of 2017 is over I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible race that these three dogs and their handlers have run over the past year. It was a nail-biter right up until the final moment of the final night, and each of them had the same goal in common but were faced with very different challenges along the way that they all handled admirably, to say the least.
After watching each of them pour their hearts into these dogs on a very personal level I believe it cannot be stated strongly enough just how much devotion, talent, sacrifice, and even mental stability it takes for a team to reach these heights while keeping their dogs happy, healthy, and in immaculate condition at all times. They may make it seem easy from the outside, but the commitment that it requires is more than most people will ever understand until they experience it for themselves.
Campaigning a dog is a a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows; nothing is ever guaranteed, and anything can happen –– that’s the only thing that is certain. Some days you can walk out of the ring empty-handed when you thought you might have your best chance, and other days you can go all the way to Best In Show when you were sure you had no chance at all!
But in the end the sum of their efforts day in and day out have brought out the best in these dogs and given each of them the opportunity to become the best that they could be, and they are an inspiration for what the rest of us should strive to become every day.
