A new PR initiative called the Hidden Gem Breeds was launched in 2022 to continue WKC’s support of breed education, preservation breeders, and responsible dog ownership. The goal was to create messaging and content that helped the public understand the role of preservation breeders. This initiative highlights the preservation breeder as the bridge between breeds from WKC’s early history and the vulnerable breeds of today.
The Hidden Gem breeds promoted in 2022 were the American Foxhound, Bergamasco Sheepdog, Skye Terrier, and Sussex Spaniel. The messaging and content were integrated into all of WKC’s communication platforms, including social media channels; the breeds were featured at the Press Preview, included in media interviews, appeared on the website, had a spread in the Official Program, and were throughout all the telecasts.
“Breeds that are long in history, yet short in numbers, are the result of the work by preservation breeders who, over decades, have ensured the health and well-being of these historic breeds of dogs.”
