International Kennel Club Of Chicago and The Canine Chronicle Announces The Chicago Challenge Cup
The International Kennel Club of Chicago (IKC) has announced plans for an innovative annual competition, the Chicago Challenge Cup, sponsored by The Canine Chronicle. The winner of the Cup will receive a cash prize of $20,000, with an additional $5,000 awarded to the winner’s choice from three canine charities.
The Cup competition will invite dogs based on two criteria. Dogs ranked in the Top 10 of their Group according to The Canine Chronicle All Breed Statistics as of May 31st will comprise one set of invitees. The other set will be made up of the Regular, NOHS, FSS and Miscellaneous group winners from all three days of the International Windy City Winter Cluster held on January 6, 7 and 8, 2023 in Schaumburg, Illinois.
These qualifiers will be invited to compete in the semi-final portion of the competition on Friday, August 25, 2023. Six finalists will be chosen to compete for The Cup prior to the group judging to be held at the Aire Crowne Theater on the night of Saturday, August 26, 2023.
“We’re excited to team with The Canine Chronicle to offer this event,” says IKC President Scott Pfeil. “With the exception of the National Championship show, this is the largest cash prize for any dog show in America. We thought it was particularly important to include dogs from the NOHS and Open competitions, and have them compete for this honor on equal footing. We think the format is innovative and exciting, and we can’t wait to see the finalists.”
More details will be available on the IKC and Windy City Cluster web pages as they become finalized. The Windy City Cluster will be held January 6-8, 2023 at the Schaumburg Convention Center just outside of Chicago. The Chicago Dog Show will be August 25-27, 2023 in Chicago.
