Rathmullan Kennel was the newest feature of an estate that the world already knew as El Delirio (The Madness), the ultimate West Coast party palace. Famed for hospitality rivaling pre-Revolutionary France, El Delirio was a Mecca for A-list stars from every walk of life. Visitors included writers like Joy Adamson, Willa Cather, Mabel Dodge Luhan, Agatha Christie, and D.H. Lawrence, explorers like Sir Hubert Wilkins and Sylvanus Morley, and musical geniuses like Igor Stravinsky and Andres Segovia. Occasionally, Robert Oppenheimer and Enrico Fermi also stopped by for a break from the Manhattan Project in nearby Los Alamos. But it was more than the guest list that made those El Delirio parties legendary.
