The introduction of the poodle begins with Wendell illuminating the greatest misconception about the breed. The misdemeanor that the Poodle is a retriever, which is false. The Poodle himself is a companion dog whose origin for retrieving waterfowl did descend from the water dog but as the muddy marshes and ponds dried up due to civilization expansion, waterfowl and the hunting thereof decreased and the Poodle eventually became a companion dog.

At a large cluster, it seemed that poor sportsmanship was rampant in many rings. One judge apparently felt the need to congratulate those on their wins as well as thank exhibitors of their sportsmanship when appropriate. That wasn’t received well by those who did not get thanked.

Many breeds experienced radical transformations during the late ‘30s and early ‘40s. Dachshunds may top that list. In 1924 AKC registered 43 Dachshunds. In 1934, annual registrations exceeded 1200, a 3000% increase.
