The Canine Chronicle extends our sincere sympathies to Jay Richardson and family on the loss of his father. We also extend our sympathies to the friends and family of Harriette Borsuch, former AKC judge and Field Rep who passed away recently…

…our condolences to Beep and Shari Lee on the loss of Beep’s father, Alvin Lee, Sr. Anyone who understands the history of our sport knows the name Alvin Lee Sr. and how influential he was to the sport of purebred dogs.

We at The Canine Chronicle hope that Charlotte Patterson is recovering after her recent illness while judging the Filer, Idaho shows. She was hospitalized while suffering from a flu-like illness. There appears to be a horrible stomach bug travelling coast to coast amongst the dog show community. It worked its way down motor home row in Blackfoot, and I’ve heard of people being affected as far as Florida.

It’s weird how the simplest old-fashioned remedies never seem to fail. Chicken soup really does help cure a cold, and chocolate actually does ease heartache. Scientific backup also confirms the therapeutic effect of physical contact with dogs. It measurably reduces stress and anxiety, and floods the brain with feel-good hormones.

I am saddened by the horrific act of violence in Orlando this past weekend and wish to extend my condolences to all those affected. This act of terrorism reminds me that we cannot take our safety and that of our dogs for granted: We must stay on our toes and be mindful of those around us. There has been more theft at shows in the recent past than any of us would like to acknowledge i.e. things disappearing from set-ups, motorhomes, booths, etc. We all need to take note and try to secure our belongings, merchandise, and dogs.

Everyone is waiting patiently (sometimes impatiently) for the new rankings through May 31, 2016. We are all anxious to see those new numbers! Unfortunately, a combination of delays in the completion of the statistics through May

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep the fancy “up” on significant dates, memorable occurrences and general happenings about the fancy, we will be sharing a weekly column with you. We would love to hear from fellow fanciers about significant dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, and other interesting anecdotes you think the fancy may want to hear about. Tell us about any exciting trips you are planning, milestones you have reached, etc. In addition, we would love to feature “where are they now” tidbits about past top dogs and their successes in the whelping box, performance sport activities, etc.

The worst thing a judge can do is beat an outstanding dog because it possesses one or two minor faults.
