Table Talk

It was East instead of West for me this past weekend as I travelled to Romulus, New York for the Wine Country circuit. In the 30 years I have been showing dogs (I started when I was an infant), I never had the opportunity to attend this circuit and I am glad I was able to go. The club members worked together to put on a spectacular show. I was so impressed to see several clubs working so well together. Even though the weather was questionable on a couple of the days, the circuit was terrific and a good time was had by all. Kudos to the hard working club members for a job well done. By the way, the grounds are spectacular!

My trip home did not go without a hitch: my car broke down and I spent five hours on the side of the road. Fun times!

Each night I drove to and from dinner during Wine Country, I listened to the country music festival streamed live on the radio. Had I been a couple hours later, I would have been listening to rapid gun fire. It breaks my heart that these horrific attacks are becoming more and more frequent and we need to worry about our safety when attending concerts, sporting events, etc. My heart goes out to those whose lives were forever changed Sunday night. I wish a speedy recovery to all that were injured.

Courtney Filinger’s wedding came off without a hitch. Our own AKC judge Jeff Bazell did the flowers. Jeff helped Vicki grow the flowers for Courtney’s bouquet as well. He is truly a talented landscape/garden designer and Vicki’s artistic talents continue to amaze me.

Regina Beinhauer, owner of the famous Cocker Spaniel, Striker, was in Las Vegas this past weekend for a very special occasion. Her daughter, Tracy, was married to her fiancé Ed Childers. I hear the wedding was spectacular. Our best wishes to these newlyweds for a lifetime of love and happiness.

Sadly the issue of exhibitors cleaning up after their dogs has come up once again – both at shows and at hotels. In case you don’t know, not picking up after your dog is a serious offense and can result in suspension. Most importantly, we have lost so many show venues and so many hotels as a result of this disrespectful behavior, and if it keeps up, there will be no hotels and no good show venues willing to host our events. I know personally if I catch someone not picking up after their dog, I do not hesitate to turn them in to those in charge. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

Doug Johnson and Jamie Hubbard hosted Clumber College this past weekend. 25 participants got together to inspire and connect efforts to protect and improve the breed by sharing tips, breed history and in-depth breed specific traits that define the Clumber Spaniel breed. Congratulations on a job well done by Doug and Jamie!!

Our sport lost two more family members this past week. Jim White, who was always a breath of fresh air at the shows, who gave me my first best in show, and who you could always count on to be fair and kind passed away. We extend our most sincere condolences to his wife, Wanda, and their family and friends. Jim will most certainly be missed by the fancy. Charles Scott, long-time partner of Tim Catterson, passed away while Tim was overseas. He was only 55 years old. Charles will be truly missed by all. He was always a gentleman and the love of Tim’s life. I extend my most sincere sympathy to Tim, and Charles’ family and friends.

Celebrating birthdays this week are: Robin Novack, Sarah Krickeberg, Ryan Wolfe, Andrea Robbins, Loran Morgan, Corey Benedict, Cindy Stansell, Megan Hof, Karen Mammano and Gia Garofalo.

Please do not hesitate to drop me a line with exciting news or developments that you would like to share: Birthdays, anniversaries, trips and…

Wherever your travels take you, please be safe, and remember to be kind to those around you. Until next time…
