Table Talk

The “other half” of the Summerfest Circuit, which included Channel City Kennel Club and Santa Maria Kennel Club, was held this past weekend at Channel Islands at California State University. I heard the parking situation was somewhat inconvenient for handlers, and those that unloaded their dogs in the building were required to load and unload daily. I was told the box truck and motorhome parking was the equivalent of a couple of blocks away, thus causing angst amongst some of the handlers. There are several who have indicated to me that they are considering not returning next year. It’s a shame when shows like the original Summerfest cluster separate. Not only does it hurt the clubs, it hurts the exhibitors as well, in my humble opinion.

The Blackhawk Kennel Club and Kishwaukee Kennel Club will be offering a Bred By Exhibitor Challenge in memory of Lorraine Meyer this coming weekend at their shows in Belvidere, Illinois. What a wonderful way to remember this wonderful woman who gave so much to our sport. Mother to AKC Judge and former professional handler Brian Meyer and grandmother to professional handler Lynn Meyer, Lorraine was not only the force behind the Blackhawk Kennel club, but also was a key committee member of the International Kennel Club of Chicago.

The Huntington Kennel Club shows were held this past weekend at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. Motorhome parking was of great concern to exhibitors as the rigs were parked on top of each other and there was no obvious plan for them to exit in the event of an emergency. The club has stated to exhibitors that they absolutely will not return to this venue in its current state, and the club is working tirelessly to find an alternative.

It is good to hear that Alberto Berrios is out of the hospital and recovering at the home of Bill Sahloff. He expects to travel home to Acworth, GA this week where he will receive care from his doctors there. All the dog family at the Lima, OH shows banded together and formed an excellent support group for Alberto. It’s wonderful to see our dog show community come together to support one of our own.

The Canine Chronicle extends our deepest sympathies to Patty Keenan on the loss of her mom, AKC Judge Barbara Keenan, who passed away last week. Ken Sleeper, owner of Roy Jones Dog Shows, passed away Saturday. We extend our sympathies to his wife, Virginia, his family, and all the folks at RJDS.

Birthday wishes to Laura King, Foy Trent and Bob Shreve.

Please let me know if there is an entire Show Committee, or special Committee member you would like mentioned for their hard work and dedication. I’d love to hear from you!!!!
