Another Poodle Club of America National Specialty is in the rear-view mirror and once again all the club volunteers did not disappoint! For the past few years PCA has been held at the Purina Event Center. The move from their long-time venue in Salisbury, Maryland was met with some apprehension, but a lot of hard work and attention to detail has made “Poodlers” comfortable in their new venue. Anyone who has had the opportunity to attend a dog show at the Purina Event Center knows it is a world-class facility. The Poodle folks expend a lot of effort and spend a considerable amount of money dressing it up with beautiful turf, and stunning plants and flowers. One cannot help but smile when entering the building all dressed up in its full glory. As always, each variety lines up in the beautiful ring for photos prior to the beginning of judging.  The view is stunning and something that should be on all fanciers’ bucket list to witness!

Westminster 2022 is right around the corner and spectator tickets for daytime admission go on sale May 16th for the Agility Trial on Saturday, June 18th and daytime conformation judging Monday June 20-Wednesday June 22nd. Please note that there will be no spectator parking allowed on the grounds, but off-site parking will be available for pre-purchase as well. Those interested in purchasing spectator tickets should monitor the Westminster website. Tickets for Group and Best In Show judging on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings is extremely limited due to space limitations.

Many fanciers have begun working on their travel plans for Westminster and have found that airline ticket prices this year are extremely high. Those coming from the West Coast are finding that tickets are $1,000 or more, and that’s before they try to get their cherished exhibit on the plane. Tickets from the Midwest are currently between $700-$1000. A note of advice to those trying to book airline tickets:  Booking tickets on Tuesdays is often advantageous. While you may not save a significant amount, for some reason, ticket prices when researched on Tuesdays, and occasionally on Mondays, may be slightly less. It does not hurt to try, right? Car rentals are also higher than normal. Try booking through Costco–it may save you a bit of money.

The Mission Circuit (to be held on their regularly scheduled Memorial Day dates) reserved grooming is now open!  Please check wheresmyspace.com for more information.

If you didn’t see Michael Shepherd, Dennis O’Connor and Perry Payson at dog shows last weekend, I’ll tell you the reason. They all took a trip to Mexico to judge! Judging by the photos I saw; it looks like they had a great time. In true road warrior fashion, they have all rushed back in time to attend this weekend’s shows.

I am pleased to report that Dr. Carmen Battaglia is recovering from his heart surgery.  Doctors have encouraged him to slow down and heal! We look forward to having you back soon, Carmen! In the meantime, take it easy, get some much-needed rest, and get well soon.

West Coast fanciers are mourning the loss of Gary Allison, more fondly known as the “Red Barn Guy”. Gary and his wife, Susan, have been a favorite vendor at West Coast shows for many years. Gary was a kind, genuine, thoughtful man who radiated and shared love wherever he was. He and his wife of 22 years, Susan were a joy to visit with any time. They were in the process of relocating from California to Tennessee. Sadly, Gary was mowing the lawn at their Tennessee home and went over the bluff. Despite rescue efforts, he did not make it. Thank you to Susan for sharing Gary with us. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, especially the dog fancy. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist Susan with the cross-country move and other related expenses.

Sheltie fancier Elizabeth Brinkley was in a terrible car accident recently. I am told she has a long road to recovery ahead of her. A GoFundMe campaign to assist her during her recovery has been established for those who would like to help out.

Happy first Anniversary to Adam Levy and Devon Kipp Levy.  May the two of you have many wonderful, healthy years of love ahead of you!

Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week are:  Jennifer Stevens, Krista Musil, Doug Johnson, Carrie Beaver, Paula Fultz, Antoinelle Vulpis, Cassie Clark, Pam Lambie, Lee Kronovich, Melanie Sorice, Heather Johnson, Patrina Odette and Jan Swayze.  May the year bring you all health, prosperity, love, and lots of blue ribbons!

From the words of Christian Rutten:  This is our sport, our moment, and our fun. Let’s celebrate it for the world to see!!

Wherever your travels may take you, please heed these words:  Be careful, and stop and enjoy the scenery along the way. Give your pooches an extra hug, my friends–tomorrow is not promised. If you are planning on attending the Beehive Cluster, stop and see me at the Purina booth! I’ll see you soon down the road. Until next time…
