Montgomery County Kennel Club Memories

I spent my last 15 hours thinking about Montgomery County Kennel Club dog show as I made my journey back home to Slovenia. No matter how often I visit this show, I always have butterflies in my stomach when I take my first steps on the grounds of the Hatboro show.
The quality of dogs, impeccable handling, and exquisite grooming makes this show a dream come true for all terrier lovers.
My heart belongs to Scotties, Airedales and Wires, so I spent all four days observing rings where those breeds were judged. I was taken by the beautiful Airedale bitch GCh. Joval Angel’s Whisper handled by Adam Bernardin who at the “big day” went BOB and 3rd BIS. This is a super bitch that has everything you could ask for in an Airedale.
In Wires my pick was Beinnein’s Verona bred in Canada but out GCh. Strozzavolpe Wait Until Dark from Italy. She was Winners Bitch at Hatboro and Devon where she finished her championship. On Sunday, she was moved up to Best of Breed and went Select and Award of Merit. She and her handler Will Alexander were a joy to see in the ring.
Several Scotties caught my eye: GCh. Lomondview Clementina, GCh. Friendship Hill Stars And Stripes, Ch. Glengracie Good News, GCh. McVan’s Be Bop Baby, McVan’s To Russia With Love… along with many others.
This year’s newcomer from the 9 to 12 month class was a true lad that showed his tough Scottish temperament for four days in a row. His name is Macbrechin’s Monopoly Beinnein.
I really loved the style of Jody Paquette and her GCh.Cumbria’s Ready Jet Got. This brindle girl was groomed to perfection and showed for her handler with all of her heart.
Many European terrier lovers come year by year to visit this show and some of them also take the challenge to show themselves. I would like to mention the success of two European breeder handlers: Helene Hulthen from Sweden and her “Cameron” Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers and Mrs. Andela Ban from Croatia and her “Dandy” Black & Blue Kerry’s. Both of them did some nice winning over the weekend.
I don’t visit the Montgomery dog shows just because of the dogs. In all my years in this sport, I’ve had the good fortune to get to know many interesting people who also became my friends. Taking a coffee together, standing at the ringside of Monty talking about dogs is priceless!
It was another exciting Montgomery and I am looking forward to coming back next year.
