Table Talk · June 8, 2016
As part of our ongoing efforts to keep the fancy “up” on significant dates, memorable occurrences and general happenings about the fancy, we will be sharing a weekly column with you. We would love to hear from fellow fanciers about significant dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, and other interesting anecdotes you think the fancy may want to hear about. Tell us about any exciting trips you are planning, milestones you have reached, etc. In addition, we would love to feature “where are they now” tidbits about past top dogs and their successes in the whelping box, performance sport activities, etc.
We want to hear from you!!!! Please email Deb Cooper with your stories/dates, etc. at Deb.Cooper@caninechronicle.com
Here is our first installment of Table Talk
Another Mission Circuit came to a close Memorial Day weekend. Specialty day (Thursday) is gaining popularity with Dachshunds, Pomeranians, Siberians, Great Danes, Cane Corsos, Pugs, Portugese Water Dogs, Bouviers, Beagles, Cockers and Bullmastiffs. Yorkshire Terriers continued their tradition of holding their specialty at the host hotel which is conveniently located adjacent to the Fairplex. Clubs on the west coast looking for a venue alternative for their specialties should consider the Mission Circuit as an option.
It was Great to see Taffe McFadden out and about looking healthy!!!!! Vicki Holloway returned from her trip to Scotland and London with many interesting stories about her travels. Kate Batzner has found her way out to the West Coast and is now assisting Jorge and Susie Olivera.
We at the Chronicle would like to wish Connor McFadden and Olivia Hodgkinson a happy birthday (how ironic that they have the SAME birthday!!) along with Jordan Olivera. Happy Anniversary to Bill and Taffe McFadden. Congrats to Carol Grossman on the high school graduation of her grandson.
Jim Frederiksen is AKC’s newest All-Arounder. He is the 19th person currently approved to judge all breeds. Jim met his partner, Jim Noe, on the playground while playing on gymnastic equipment some 59 years ago. They will be celebrating their 59-year anniversary this coming June. In 1961, before Frederiksen went into the army, they started breeding Collies. When Jim got out of the army in 1963, they started showing their collies. Frederiksen was the primary breeder of the pair, while the Noe was the primary groomer/exhibitor. Since they began in 1961, they have bred or co-bred over 100 champion collies. They also bred West Highland White Terriers, but did not exhibit the breed.
Jim began his judging career in 1975 and completed his all-around license this month. When asked how he feels about the new judges approval process he responded, “I’m not completely sold on it: It is certainly better than the prior revised process, but we will see”.
