Sometimes what we thought were our goals are not. Sometimes life intervenes, and the goals we achieve are better than any we ever imagined.

In December of 2019 I thought my goal was to get Pepe’s Platinum title. At age 11, he’d been retired years earlier to make room for his son, Ponzi. I think he had about 650 points at the time, and I had no intention of going further. But I did bring him out for special events, and eventually I noticed he only needed 70 points. Then 50. Then COVID. It was embarrassing to even admit I was concerned about dog show points while a pandemic raged. But Pepe wasn’t getting any younger. Months ticked by. Finally, in July, a show opened. After the weekend I breathed a sigh of release. Now only 8 points to go!
