Rowan County Sheriff’s Department Receives Grant Through Adopt A K9 Cop Program

AKC Reunite, the largest non-profit pet microchip identification and recovery service provider in the United States, is pleased to announce that it has awarded $17,500 to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department through its AKC ReuniteAdopt A K-9 Cop matching grant program.

Funds were raised by contributions from AKC dog clubs and community members, with AKC Reunite matching donations at a three-to-one ratio. The contributing club for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department’s grant was the Salisbury North Carolina Kennel Club. A check presentation will occur on Thursday, July 20th.

“We are thrilled to be able to contribute to the success of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department” said Tom Sharp, President & CEO of AKC Reunite. “We know how many departments throughout the country struggle with funding so we are proud to play a small part in helping the community.”

“Our working dogs are such an important part of our daily duties. They are valuable team members that we and the community love to see in action, said Sheriff Travis Allen for Rowan County, North Carolina. “They are much more than just enforcers. They are friends, family members and an encouragement to the community.”

Donations from the Adopt a K9 Cop program help police departments affected by lack of funding throughout the United States purchase K9 police dogs. Many of the police dogs acquired with the help of these grants are used as patrol dogs as well as detection dogs, helping to locate narcotics, explosives and/or evidence. With this grant, the department has selected a Bloodhound.

The Adopt A K-9 Cop program recently awarded its 500th grant in Cedar Rapids, IA, reaching $3.7 million in donations. Learn more about how to get involved in AKC Reunite Adopt A K-9 Cop program and see pictures and stories of dogs already donated at https://www.akcreunite.org/k9/.
