Remembering Mr. Kenneth “Chip” Rayner Jr.

It is with great sadness we share the news that Mr. Kenneth “Chip” Rayner Jr. of Hamilton, New Jersey passed away. Chip was an AKC judge and active participant in the sport of purebred dogs for 60 years.

Chip was a second-generation dog show fancier; he was born into a dog family following in his father’s footsteps. Chip began showing dogs when he was 12 years old; his original breed was German Shepherds. Chip went on to become a successful Professional Handler best known for his great success in the Shepherd ring. Chip handled many Multiple All-Breed Best In Show & Best In Specialty Show Winning German Shepherd Dogs.

Chip met the love of his life, Jackie, at the dog shows and they became a formidable handling and judging team. Married for 48 years, there was never any doubt how much Chip loved Jackie! Later in life, Chip and Jackie shared their home with a few Russian Toys and Chihuahuas. Chip was a longtime member of the German Shepherd Dog Club Of America and a founding member of the Delaware Valley Toy Dog Fanciers Association.

In 2002, Chip became an AKC Judge. He was approved to judge Best In Show as well as the Herding Group and a handful of Working and Toy breeds. Chip judged Shepherd Specialties all over the country and was a very popular choice among the exhibitors. Chip was always kind, welcoming, and helpful to new exhibitors.

Chip was known for his kindness and sense of humor – ever the gentleman. The Canine Chronicle extends our deepest condolences to Chip’s wife, Jackie, family, friends and the entire dog fancy. He will be sorely missed.
