‘Twas a year to remember, a judge’s delight
Dog shows opened up, though nary a flight
was on time and rental cars, few
But alas we had luggage and something to do.
We bought some new clothes, to make us look leaner
Rekindled our friendships with our dry cleaners
We traveled afar with our standards and masks
That hid our expressions as we tackled our tasks
The good dogs were aplenty, the ribbons were flowing
Great to be judging, great to be going
home without loading up x-pens and crates
no bait in our pockets, no missed closing dates
Tis the classes and breeds that brought us all here
No miniature sleighs, no seven reindeer.
At the end of each day, a rosette will be won
And we’ll look to the future, see ya’ twenty two one!
Carl G. Liepmann – AKC Judge
When you compare dog shows in 2021 to 2020 one would think there was no naughty, only nice. Stop and think about the Florida shows in January that had literally thousands of entries. What do the show chairs do when hiring panels for this year? Covid cancelled hundreds of shows in 2020 but it still reared its ugly head in 2021. A number of clubs were within days of the start of their show and then received calls from judges stating they had the disease. Although that was naughty it was also nice for many permit judges who got that last minute call for help. 2021 certainly has been nice for Nationals with everybody so anxious to show and get together with their fellow exhibitors, the entries have been over the top. Some clubs have even received an early AKC Christmas present with two Nationals in one year. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
