Havanese Reign in NYC
Saturday’s Havanese specialty at the Hotel Pennsylvania drew 33 entries. Winners Dog and Best of Winners among nine class dogs was Narwyn MeadowView Mischief Maker from the 12-18 class. Reserve Winners Dogs came from 6-9 Puppy and went to Viva’s Catch Me If U Can.
From an entry of six class bitches, the Open Bitch Viva’s Tribute Rose took Winners Bitch while Reserve Winners Bitch was MeadowView’ Girls Chase Boys Chase Girls from the Bred by Exhibitor class.
It was a repeat Best of Breed win for Ch. Mistytrail’s Reddi N’Will’N who also took Breed at Progressive on Friday. BOS went to GCH Wispering Water’s Leap of Faith.
Judge Carol Smith, a longtime breeder of Afghan Hounds and Italian Greyhounds, remarked on the overall excellent quality of her entry saying that she was especially pleased about their consistent size and overall nice balance, emphasizing that breeders have struggled with these particular issues.
She was delighted to find such strong quality in her class dogs saying that her Winners Dog stood out for his overall type, proportion, and lovely springy gait.
She described her Winners Bitch as a strong mover and similar in type to her Winners Dog. She considered her lineup of 17 specials amazingly good saying that her Breed dog was an immediate standout among them for his type, balance, beautiful coat quality, and showmanship.
The New York Metro events continue today with another nine specialty shows packed into the Skytop Ballroom.
