Europe Dog Show – Poland

324 – The Annual, 2018-19

By Gábor Szalánczi

Europe’s most important show (after the World Dog Show, which is often held in Europe, but not every year) the Europe Dog Show, has large entries–in lighter years 7-8,000, and 12-14,000 dogs in stronger years. Much depends on the time of year, judges, host city, etc. This year’s show was held at a good time, more or less in central Europe, had a good judge list, and drew more than 15,000 dogs.

The show was held in the capital city of Warsaw, Poland, but was actually in Nadarzyn, 15-20 km from the Warsaw city center. The venue was a brand new exhibition center with 6 halls, 5 of which were used for the show. The organizers tried to keep the one group-one hall system, the breed judging was in 4 halls, and in the 5th was the main ring and the all trade stands.

There were than 15,000 dogs, making this one of the biggest European dog shows. The line-up included dogs from all countries in Europe and more (Americas, Asia), and the top judges and, of course, most of the well-known and not so well-known handlers were here, too. In Europe dog showing is a hobby for many breeders and owners, and I think only about 10-15% of the dogs were presented by professional handlers.

The rings were good size, big enough, with brand new blue carpet, and all the rings were surounded by chairs. In my opinion, the halls were not light enough at al. I think everyone would be happy with a little bit more lighting. Around the rings were enough spaces for the exhibitors, and for moving also, but the big halls and the big distances (between the rings and between the halls) meant a lot of walking, especially if you wanted to see more breeds, or the trade stands. The farthest points of the show were 1000 meters from each other. Because these were very new exhibition halls, there were enough toilets and food vendors nearby.

The show was 4 days, 2 or 3 Groups each day, plus, in the last hall was (on the first 3 days) an International show, also, the Anniversary Show, as the 80th birthday of the Polish KC.
