Can Environmental Chemicals Trigger Canine Lymphoma? Join the Canine Health Foundation Webinar!
Environmental Chemicals and Lymphoma Risk in Dogs
Speaker: Dr. Lauren Trepanier
Date/Time: Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 7:00 pm ET
Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphoid cells of the immune system, is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers in dogs. While genetic mutations are known contributors, environmental exposures are also suspected to play a role in disease development. With support from the AKC Canine Health Foundation, researchers at the University of Wisconsin–Madison explored how genetic susceptibility and exposure to environmental chemicals—such as water chlorination byproducts and proximity to industrial facilities—may influence lymphoma risk, particularly in Boxers. This webinar will review their findings, including key insights on glutathione-S-transferase (GST) enzyme function and the geographic factors linked to higher lymphoma incidence in dogs. The results contribute to a better understanding of cancer risk and inform future strategies for prevention.
