A few things in life qualify as universal fantasies. Winning lottery tickets, space travel… ho-hum. Let’s dream big! I’m talking owner/handled record breakers in the sport of purebred dogs. This is the thing that makes us get up every morning and face another day. It’s that sparkling prize that keeps ev

eryone inspired and striving for perfection. And the maddening part is that we get close often enough to make us realize that once in a while it actually happens, like well…that one-in-a-million, winning ticket.

Big dreams keep us energized and motivated, but I’m not here to bore you with that old drill about determination, confidence, and positive thinking. That’s like saying buy more tickets, you will hit the jackpot someday. Actually, the only thing that will guarantee is a ton of old lotto tickets. Any nitwit knows there’s way more to our sport than that. That’s why you read CC.

First off, as every advice guru will tell you, go to the experts if you want hardcore guidance on how to make it happen. Classie, Swagger and Wasabi need no introduction. But they’re not talking, so here’s the next best thing.

It goes without saying that the magnitude of this challenge partly depends on the breed. Some breeds, like say Boxers, are defined by a history of overachievers, dogs with reputations that transcend any breed or era. Fox Terrier milestones impart an aura of fame and invincibility that is truly intimidating to any sane person. And the King of Toys got that nickname for a reason.
