AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day Returns For Its 18th Year
By Jessica Rice
The American Kennel Club® (AKC®) is thrilled to announce the return of the AKC’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day. This summer and fall hundreds of clubs and dog organizations around the country will host free events to educate dog lovers and owners alike about the responsibilities that come with dog ownership after a brief two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Responsible dog ownership is one of the pillars of the American Kennel Club and we are thrilled to be able to bring back this educational program, celebrating the bond between human and canine,” said Dennis B. Sprung, President & CEO of the American Kennel Club. “This is such an important opportunity for both current and prospective dog owners alike to learn about the responsibilities that come with having a dog.”
AKC Flagship RDO Day: AKC will host its flagship event, Responsible Dog Ownership Day, on Saturday, September 17th in Raleigh, NC at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. Dogs and their owners will be able to enjoy a day of dog sport demonstrations, giveaways, games, in addition to a microchipping clinic and more. Bailey’s Book Club will also be on site collecting books for their program, which is designed to provide dog-themed books to Title 1 schools grades K-12 while also teaching children about the human-canine bond. Additionally, dogs can achieve their Canine Good Citizen title at this action-packed event. AKC Pet Insurance, administered by PetPartners, Inc., returns this year as the presenting sponsor of AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day as well as YuMOVE®, the official joint supplement of the American Kennel Club.
Host an Event: All efforts are appreciated and welcomed, from hosting a public education table at a dog show or dog run to creating a day-long festival. The first 600 clubs and organizations that register at www.akc.org/rdod will receive a kit full of free giveaways and a searchable event listing on the AKC website. Some giveaways for 2022 include posters, brochures, wristbands, and more.
