AKC Canine Health Foundation Celebrates $3.4 Million in Awarded Research in 2022

The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health of all dogs, announces another successful year awarding canine health research grants and educational programs.

In 2022, CHF and its donors invested $3.4 million in 54 canine health research and educational grants. These funds support studies exploring drug resistant epilepsy, chronic kidney disease, new technologies to diagnose and treat cancer, spread of vector-borne diseases, and more. Several of these studies are a continuation of previous CHF-funded work expanding our understanding of the management of congestive heart failure, early detection of various cancers, and a new treatment for bone cancer.

CHF also supported two new American Kennel Club/AKC Canine Health Foundation/Theriogenology Foundation Small Animal Theriogenology Residencies and awarded four Clinician-Scientist Fellowships. Theriogenology is the study of reproductive medicine, and the residency program helps ensure that specialists trained in reproduction and clinical genetics are available to safeguard the health of current and future generations of dogs. CHF’s fellowship program encourages new researchers investigating canine health and disease to pursue a career in companion animal health.

In 2022, CHF earned its fourth consecutive Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency and another highest four-star Charity Navigator rating, demonstrating that it exceeds industry standards for fiscal responsibility, accountability, and transparency and outperforms most charities in its category.
