Have you ever sat outside a ring and watched an unfamiliar breed? Have you looked at the outline or the coat and wondered what is correct for that breed?
Although we never recommended that puppies go home at Christmas, we usually tried to have a female due soon after the New Year. January and February can be dark, bleak months, but inside it was “puppies in the kitchen” time. It made the winter go quickly, and we bonded with those puppies particularly. The puppies would not be ready to go to their new homes until mid-March, a much better time to housebreak a puppy than winter.
I had the opportunity this year to do Table Talk Live! segments with a few of the NOHS group winners/placements, and it was reassuring to hear each of them call out the support of the fancy and, specifically, professional handlers. As a sport, we need to continue to support each other, especially the newcomers, and hearing the Owner Handlers acknowledge that the support is encouraging.
