This long post (my last one on WKC, I promise) will likely only be interesting to those who show, judge, handle, and/or breed Goldens; or to those who are curious about what is happening in a dog judge’s mind (or at least this judge’s mind) as final decisions are made.
The International Kennel Club of Chicago (IKC) has announced plans for the inaugural International Open Show Extravaganza, with an unprecedented focus on Foundation Stock Service (FSS) and Miscellaneous breeds.
Not too long after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, a young woman named Vivian Edwards returned to California from a respite in St. Louis. While there, she had purchased a young Doberman Pinscher bitch, Casa del Canto’s Commanche, a double granddaughter of Sieger Ch. Muck v. Brunia.
One of the things at the top of my bucket list is to attend a dog show at the beautiful World Equestrian Center (WEC) in Ocala, Florida. I keep hearing such amazing things about the facility, the grounds, and everything associated with it! We need to be protective of lovely venues like this, my friends. After last weekend’s shows there were set-ups and areas left in less than clean conditions. We all need to continue to work hard to leave our venues in better shape than we found them.
Which dog group cannot compete for Best in Show and why?
There are three reasons to explain why dogs are considered man’s best friend. They begin with our need for protection, companionship and hunting assistance. History shows that two events helped make this bond stronger. The first occurred in 1942 during World War II with a program called “Dogs for Defense” which involved thousands of citizens who donated their dogs to the war effort. The second occurred in 2016 when the US Senate held hearings about the security of the infrastructure using bomb detection and patrol dogs. Both events memorialized the importance of canines for their many uses and services.
