F Facebooking the Fancy

How many conversations have you been part of in the past year where the quality of dogs in your breed was lamented? Those conversations could be actual face-to-face talks, phone calls or virtual conversations conducted on social media channels like Facebook. Talk to anyone who’s been involved in conformation competition for more than 10 years and you’ll probably hear the same thing: the understanding of correct type, soundness and movement just isn’t as prevalent as it was in years past.

My subconscious mind, or my muse–if you believe in that stuff–telling me I had better get started before my memory decided to store it on my cloud. Which is the same as my phone; never to be seen or heard from again.

The Challenge

Warlock

The perpetual question is whether this sport has gotten harder or easier over the decades. There is no end of opinionated discussion on both sides of that argument. However, everything is relative. Case in point, prior to 2015 there was non-stop talk about revising the Triple Crown requirements because no one had conquered that challenge since Affirmed crossed the finish line at Belmont way back in 1978.
